Tasked to bring the A-Z maps to Android. The big challenge was to allow for large downloads, and allow fast browsing of the hi-res maps. Downloads were achieved using APK expansion packs, providing a seamless user experience with the ability to pause / resume and the option to only download over wi-fi. Fast map browsing was achieved by a custom multi-threaded tile viewer. Instant access to over 300,000 streets and POIs was provided via a local SQLite database. Delivered fully native Android apps for tablet and phone, from initial concept to app store submission.
