100 mile cycle ride for Action Medical Research - Essex Ride 100 (sponsored by MonkeySource)

Essex Ride 100 - Sponsored by MonkeySource

Essex Ride 100 is a yearly cycle event which raises money for Action Medical Research for Children. They fund vital research to help defeat the diseases that devastate the lives of sick and disabled babies, children and young people.

It's no secret that a fair few of us here at MonkeySource are cycling enthusiasts, so with some of us also having kids ourselves, this seemed like the perfect event to get involved in. So we reached out to Essex Ride 100 to be their official sponsor for 2019...

...and it wouldn't be a MonkeySource event without involving some luminous pink...

We took on the 'Champion' route

There were 3 routes to choose from - a 'Cool' 39 miles, a 'Classic' 68 miles or a 'Champion' 102 miles. Here at MonkeySource, we like to do things thoroughly, so it wouldn't have been right to take on anything but the 102 mile 'Champion' route!

The route started (and finished) in Colchester and took us through lots of beautiful, rural locations in Essex.

The best part of the day

Other than the cycling, the best part of the day was seeing our families waiting at the finish line!

The worst part of the day

Knee pain in the last 10 miles!

Strava says:

  • Moving time: 6:39:10
  • Elevation: 4,304 ft
  • Calories burned: 3,232

Not bad for a bunch of techies, hey?

We lived to tell the tale...

Overall, sponsoring and taking part in Essex Ride 100 was a win-win for us. We had a great day, whilst helping to raise money for a great cause.
